Around 1682 the Trompe de Chasse, or hunting horn, came into vogue. The Kings and nobles that played this horn composed thousands of fanfares and several Hubertus-Masses, but no known Requiem. In 2003 Lowell Greer composed the Requiem du Chasseur in memory of Helen Kotas Hirsch, former first horn of the Chicago Symphony.
